The Stage of Early Practice

From the founding of the PRC in 1949 to the completion of the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge in 1957

In April 1953, the Wuhan Bridge Engineering Bureau was established to undertake the mission to construct the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, which was open to traffic on October 15th, 1957. After the completion of the bridges, CREC employees continued to forge ahead with a persistent and hardworking spirit and devoted themselves to building bridge around China, embarking on a new journey.

The Stage of Independent Exploration

From the completion of the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge to the mid-1970s

In the early 1960s, China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (MBEC) independently developed the 16Mnq steel for bridges, which was hailed as the “self-dependent steel.” In 1968, the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, the first double-decked road-rail bridge designed and built with Chinese technology in China, was completed, heralding a new epoch of Chinese people constructing large-scale bridge projects on their own.

The Stage of Market-oriented Development

From 1978 to the mid-1990s

During the period, CREC showed great courage and capacity to seek innovation, and built a number of exemplary bridges including the Jiujiang Yangtze River Bridge and the Shantou Bay Bridge, standing out among its counterparts around the world. Amid fierce market competition, the company further sharpened the edge of its core competitiveness, with its engineering quality, brand and reputation further enhanced.

From the mid-1990s to 2000

The span of the Wuhu Yangtze River Road-Rail Bridge completed in the late 1990s reaches 312 meters, a world-leading level among bridges of the same kind. The bridge embodies MBEC’s commitment to “building high-quality projects with refined workmanship” and tireless pursuit of superb projects.

The Stage of Global Leadership

From 2000 to the present

Several of the world’s 10 longest suspension and cable-stayed bridges are built by China. From the Wuhan Tianxingzhou Yangtze River Bridge and the Nanjing Dashengguan Yangtze River Bridge to the Shanghai-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge and the Wufengshan Yangtze River Bridge, MBEC, as a state-owned enterprise, has made itself a world leader in bridge construction through continuous leapfrog development.
